Bethlehem Steel
Blaine’s Building System Division constructed Bethlehem’s new Cold Roll Steel Mill Complex in Sparrow’s Point, Maryland with a hybrid steel design approach, utilizing conventional structural steel for support of the cranes combined with pre-engineered columns, cold rolled purlins and girts, and open web rafter systems above the crane rail elevation. All the pre engineered steel was manufactured by Varco Purden Buildings. The roof cladding is VP’s Standing Seam Roof rolled from Galvalume material manufactured by Bethlehem Steel. The siding is VP’s panel-rib with Kynar finish. The combined tonnage of all steel incorporated into the structure totaled approximately 9,000 tons equally divided between conventional and pre engineered components.
