Northwest Airlines Maintenance Hangar
Northwest’s Maintenance Hangar at Knoxville, Tennessee’s McGhee Tyson Airport is a one level pre-engineered building with 214 feet of clear span and 48 feet of eave height. The high bay portion of the maintenance hangar consists of 40,000 SF of space with the office/parts storage area making up the remaining 14,000 SF of the low bay space.
A separate pre engineered building houses three firewater pumps for a foam water sprinkler system (AFFF). Two 115,000 gallon water tanks located just outside the building serve this system.
Also on site is 50,000 SF of concrete paving, per FAA specifications, for the airplane apron, which leads to the airport runway. An oil separator system located on site serves all run off from the hangar and maintenance area floor drains. This facility is complete with its own compressed air system and radiant infrared heating system. The building and all structural components was manufactured by Varco Pruden Buildings.
