UT Min Kao Electrical & Computer Engineering Facility
The Min Kao project is a six story building with a structural concrete frame through level two and a structural steel frame from level two through level six. It includes 180,000 sf of classrooms, research labs, conference rooms and computer rooms. The building skin is brick and precast masonry with large glass curtain walls, storefronts and a rotunda entry. This building has a large open atrium with a monumental stair case and a large rooftop skylight. Just below the eave of the roof is a sixth level exterior plaza deck for the enjoyment of the outdoors while studying. All interior finishes are high end with poured in place terrazzo flooring throughout the building.
Also included is an adjoining 17,000 sf auditorium building which will include stadium seating for lecture halls and connector corridors to the main building at levels four, five and six.
Both buildings for the project will be LEED certified (the first LEED certified buildings on the University of Tennessee campus) and they will include many environmentally friendly and energy efficient design characteristics.
